First strawberry crop picked above the Arctic Circle

The hydroponics greenhouse complex based in the Arctic Circle is functioning successfully, the Russian website Sever writes. It allows growing biological vegetables and berries all year round irrespective of the climate or the amount of sunny days. Apart from strawberries, the growers have collected several crops of chives, dill, parsley and ruccola, as well as the first cherry tomatoes, radishes and bell peppers grown above the Arctic Circle.

The results of the laboratory tests have proven that all crops from the “smart greenhouse” meet the state standards, reports the government of Yamal region. The produce is not only safe but also healthy.

“Originally the project was an experimental one. However, the associates of the Gazpromneft Yamal production field have supported the initiative and have been making suggestions to the improvement of the quality of the grown produce, sharing their experience and introducing new ideas on plant management. That is why we expect 2021 to be a more fruitful year for our Arctic greenhouse. Such projects are aimed at not only delivering the vitamins to the dwellers but also at improving the quality of their lives”, shared the director on administration matters of LLC Gazpromneft Yamal, Mr. Evgeniy Zakharov.
