April 2026 - Analytical Report

This report includes:

Two waves of April frosts: 9–13 April brought the lowest nighttime temperatures, while 29–30 April affected the largest areas during the flowering stage. Nighttime temperature maps for Ukraine, Poland, and Serbia are included.

Assessment of blossom losses: Based on the ERA5 reanalysis, estimated blossom losses reached approximately 19% for strawberries and 23% for raspberries. Blueberries experienced no blossom losses, although winter damage to plantations is estimated at around 10%.

Challenges and growers' perspectives: Survey results from berry producers show actual losses ranging from 0% to 70%, along with insights into which frost protection methods proved most effective.

April price anomalies: Fresh blueberry prices reached new record highs of up to UAH 1,060/kg, while the first domestic strawberries became more expensive despite the usual seasonal downward price trend.

Frozen berry export dynamics: Ukrainian raspberries achieved record export revenue, while frozen bilberries remained in short supply and frozen blueberry exports continued to expand on the EU market (Eurostat data through February 2026).

May weather outlook and international opportunities: When the risk of late frosts is expected to subside and which international trade fairs are likely to shape export contracts for the new season.
