South Africa's blueberry exports are forecast to rise by 20% in the upcoming season, according to a recently released USDA GAIN report.
The U.S. fresh blueberry industry achieved a milestone in May when it finally gained access to the Chinese market after many years of negotiations. However, successfully exporting to this demanding and distant market comes with numerous challenges, some of which are outside the industry's control.
At the moment, volumes are low and there's a high demand in the cherry market. The supply has been reduced mostly around the Mediterranean due to unfavorable weather conditions.
